I had 3 guests today for a morning trip and we ventured over to the Deshka River. In the first hole we fished we caught a small but chrome bright 12 pound king salmon. As we fished several other holes we hooked two other king salmon both of which came off after a short fight.
I also had 4 guests for an afternoon charter and we also fished the Deshka River. After fishing several holes without a bite one of the guests began fishing with a trout rod and a #2 vibrax spinner and caught a beautiful 18" rainbow trout. We also caught a grayling but finished the charter without hooking or catching a king salmon.

Today I had 3 guests on board for the morning trip and 4 in the afternoon. Water levels remain elevated but color was fair and conditions were definitely fishable. In the morning we worked several holes and hooked 2 nice kings but managed to only boat one of them, a chrome bright 33 pound female. In the afternoon we hooked and caught 2 small kings, one jack and one 10 pounds.

Today I had 4 guests on the boat for a morning charter on the Little Susitna River. Water levels were elevated and there was still a fair amount of debris in the river but it was fishable. We fished several holes and by 8:30 Am we had three king salmon in the box. It began to rain and we continued to fish for another hour before the guests wanted to call it a day and head back to the boat launch. The fish weighed 35, 27, and 12 pounds. These early fish are so fresh and beautiful. All of them were chrome and had sea lice.

I had a group of 5 fisherman on the boat this morning and we set out to fish the Little Susitna River. At 6:01 I we let the first line back behind the boat and before the lure could dive all the way down we had our first fish on. We fished several holes and had 4 king salmon in the box by 10:00 AM. I rowed the boat through many good spots until 1:30 PM trying to get that last fish to no avail. We came back to the launch one fish shy of a limit. The water is in great condition today and I expect fishing to get better by the day. I still have openings for anyone who wants to get out and catch a king. Call us at 907-357-0131.

We fished several other holes and about 9 AM the second king salmon, a bright 25 pound hen, was in the box and we were headed back the the boat launch for pictures and fish cleaning. The water level continues to drop and clear and it was in perfect condition today.
Wednesday June 3, 2009
I had three guests join me today on the Little Susitna River for a morning charter. We fished multiple spots looking for a bite with no results. By 12:00 noon, when the charter was supposed to end we had not even had single bite. I offered to spend a little more time and row through a few more spots if they had the time and they all agreed. Finally I decided to do one more spot and I called it "last chance hole." On the final drift of the day we hooked and caught a chrome bright 30 pound king salmon. It was a tough day of fishing but we did not go back without a fish.

I had a couple from Texas and a man from Anchorage on the boat today and we fished the Little Susitna River. We made several drifts before getting our first bite. The person who got the bite failed to set the hook and the fish got away. We decided to run that hole again and the same person got another strike but this time she set the hook firmly and we caught the fish. We fished on covering many different holes and managed to get one other solid take down but missed the fish. On one of our final drifts of the morning while on our way back to the boat launch we nabbed a beautiful chrome 30 pound female king salmon.
Friday June 4, 2009
Today I had 2 people fishing with me on the Little Susitna River. We fished hard to get only one bite and caught one king salmon. The water had risen and color was changing and becoming dirty.

Monday June 7, 2009
I fished the Little Susitna River again today and I had a morning and an afternoon group. In the AM I had a group of 4 people. We fished several holes before getting our first bite. Eventually we hooked and landed two kings. We had a third take down and fought a large fish for a few moments before he jumped completely out of the water and spit the hook right next to the boat. The fish we boated were 23 and 12 pounds. In the afternoon I had two people with me and we set out looking for fish. After four hours of rowing we got our first and only bite. It took the person by surprise and she never got a chance to set the hook resulting in the fish coming off after only a few seconds. After working very hard and covering many holes we returned to the launch without a fish.
Tuesday June 8, 2009
I had a group of four today for a morning charter and we began looking for fish. We worked over holes for a couple hours before hooking and catching a small jack. Some time later we hooked and caught a nice chrome 15 pound hen king salmon. One of my guests was a ten year old boy and he could not stay awake after getting up so early. As he slept he let go of his rod so I put it in a rod holder for him while he napped. As fate would have it that was the rod that got the next bite. We scrambled to get the rod out and have him set the hook but the fish ran straight at the boat and he could never catch up. The fish got away. If he had been holding the rod I am certain that we could and caught that fish. It would have easily been the big fish of the day.
Wednesday June 10, 2009
I had a group in the morning and a group in the afternoon today. In the morning we had 4 people on board and we fished for several hours without a bite. Finally we hooked and caught two nice king salmon within an hour of each other. In the afternoon I had a group of 3 people and we set out to fish under a hot sun. We did not get any bites until late in the charter when a young girl hooked on to a charging king salmon. He proved to be too much for her and he quickly got off. Later we hooked and caught a nice 28 pound king salmon.
Thursday June 11, 2009
I fished with two groups of folks today, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Both trips came out almost identical. We fished hard for 6 hours on each trip and caught one small jack on each trip. In the morning I had one bite and one fish and the afternoon we had two bites and one fish.
Friday June 12, 2009
Today I had a group of 6 gentleman all from Tennessee. We took off back trolling many different holes in search of king salmon and I rowed a couple of hours before we hooked our first fish. It took the rod down and stripped off line only to spit the hook several seconds into the fight. We hooked three very nice kings today all with the same result. A solid hook up, a burst off the drag and then off... It was one of those mornings as a guide that frustrates you to no end. I put them on fish and everyone did everything right and still the fish came off. We will try again tomorrow in hopes of redeeming ourselves.
Saturday June 13, 2009
I had a group of four today for a morning charter. We made the first drift and caught a 10 pound king salmon right off the bat which we then released. A short while later we caught and released another small jack. As we moved through various holes we happened upon a chrome bright 18 pound king which we caught and retained. Finally we hooked and caught a dime bright 27 pound buck to end the morning.
Sunday June 14, 2009
Today I had group of five on the boat for a morning charter. We put out the first line at 6:00 AM and before I could get the second line in the water we had a fish on. After that we fished another three and a half hours before a second strike occurred when we caught a nice 27 pound chrome bright king. Then within an hour we had three more fish on but all three came off after short fights. We returned to the launch with two kings.
Monday June 15, 2009
I had a group of only three today and we anchored up over a good hole awaiting the 6 AM start time. I let the lines out pulled the anchor and began to row the boat and within a minute or two we hooked our first king salmon. We worked over lots of good holes and could only manage to catch one more fish even though we had several bites.
Tuesday June 16, 2009
I had a group of four people for the morning and we ran a ways down before setting up to fish. In the first hole we stopped in we hooked and lost a nice king. After it came off we let the lines out again and the same person hooked another king and this time he caught it. We fished several more hours before getting a second and third bite and boating two more kings. Everyone in the boat got to catch a king but one of them was a small jack.
The afternoon trip I had two people on the boat and we worked over lots of water before getting our first bite. Both of the folks caught a king salmon.
Wednesday June 17, 2009
Today I had both a morning and and afternoon trip. The morning trip went very well. We caught a small jack on the first drift and a nice 20 pound king on the second drift. As we worked over various holes we picked up fish until everyone on the boat caught a king salmon.
I had two people for the afternoon and we fished several holes just down from the boat ramp. We got to or three bites with no hookups. Finally, after several hours of fishing we caught our first fish. In spite of much rowing we could not seem to find a second fish.
Thursday June 18, 2009
I ha a group of four for the morning trip and a group of six for the afternoon trip. The morning started off slow and we did not even touch a fish for the first couple of hours. Then finally we hooked and netted our first fish, a chrome bright 25 pound king. We hooked and boated another fish with sea lice a short time later and ended the trip with two fish.
The afternoon trip was a grandpa with five if his grandkids ranging 7 to 15 years old. We put the lines out and I pulled the anchor and began to row the boat. I made no more than 10 pulls on the oarss and the littlest one of the kids hooked up a 30 plus pond fish. The other kids could not get their lines reeled up fast enough and it got tangled and the fish capitalized on it and broke the line. We had several other good take downs but could not hook them. We returned to the dock empty handed.
Friday June 19, 2009
I had a group of 4 people for a morning trip today. One of the members was a 14 year old boy who had just broken his arm yesterday and did not think he could fish. I told him we all worked together he could still fish and he agreed to try. He held the rod with one hand and we put out the rest of the lines and took off rowing down the river. The first rod to go down was his and he set the hook well and his dad helped him reel in a nice 27 pound king salmon. After moving hole to hole for several hours we eventually hooked and caught a very nice 35 pound king.
